Credit cards, like people, come in all sorts of packages. Some may have a more expensive lifestyle, but they are not showy. Some of them may look like a Plain Jane on the outside, but come with all kids of surprises. Some of them may make you look good to others, but will drive you insane- with all the extra stuff they come with- in private. Others may not make people take a second glance at you, but they do more for you than any other could.
We all want to look good, and we all want the best. We search for prestige and honor among others, but what price will we have to pay for it?
Choosing the right card is about more than how it looks, or even how it feels. It is about how it fits your lifestyle, and how it has the ability to improve even a little bit of your life, like the small part that it will take up on your credit report.

There are some things you can do to make sure the type of credit cards you use will fit your life, and help make it better.

Don’t use all available credit. If you keep your credit spending under the limit set, you will ensure that you are able to handle the payments. It is suggested that you not use more than half of the available credit.

Look for low interest rates. Shop around and read all the information you can find on any card you are considering. If the interest rate is high, don’t apply for it.

Look into cards offered by places you frequently buy from. Using a card from a store, or a gas station is a good way to build up your credit, and not make purchases you wouldn’t normally make. Some places offer discounts if you use their card. This is great, if you would be buying anyway.

Look at what fees there are if you make a late payment. How does this make a difference in the total you owe? Your goal is to make payments on time, or even end with a zero balance each month, but what if you have an emergency and are late? The late fees are sometimes the killer when it comes to paying off credit. Keep a low, or no, balance to avoid paying a high price.

Ignore the brand of the cards. When you are looking for a credit card, get out of the frame of mind that brand matters. What you are looking for is a good fit for you, your lifestyle, and your credit rating. Look at the things that matter: interest rates, monthly and yearly fees, and any other determining factor. You will end up with something far better than a good look. You will end up with knowing you are better than any card can make you look. After all, a good credit score looks awesome!
