Finding Tax Information in Your State

LetsGetCredit.com Exclusive

When tax time rolls around again, you have yet another task facing you; finding tax information and tax forms in order to do your taxes. If you have lived in one area for quite some time, you may be very familiar with the locations of tax forms and other information. But what if you have recently moved and have not yet had time to seek out tax forms? Chances are you can find them in the same place that you were using at your previous residence. But let us go through those places, as some people may not have thought of some of them, and there is always the young adult who must file for the first time and may not be sure where to look.

Naturally, professional tax preparing companies as well as the popular tax software can save you time and trouble in terms of seeking out tax information. Both already have all the forms and are up to date on the newest tax regulations. This includes your particular state. Because you have to file state and federal taxes, it would be quite ridiculous for either the company or the software not to include state information.

Should you avoid both of those and want to go the old fashioned route, there are a few different places you can get tax information. The internet is a prime place to download and print your own tax forms (if you choose not to do it electronically). The website of the IRS is constantly updated with new information for both federal and state taxes and you can comb through the site to find PDF files that you can download and either print or fill out right on your computer before you print them.

You can also skip the IRS main site and go straight to your state website. They all have the same format: http://www.state.(state initials).us. So for example, Pennsylvania’s website would be http://www.state.pa.us. From there you may be able to find tax information fairly easily, but if not, you can always do a search using keywords such as “tax” or “tax forms.” Once you find the correct information, you can simply download and fill out.

You may not be aware, but your local library is likely to have all the tax information you need. There is a good chance when you walk in during tax season, you will see a setup just for tax information that is completely free and includes all the forms you need. You can get detailed pamphlets about new tax laws for your state as well as any federal changes, as well as general tax information that answers questions such as, “Do I need to file?” in case you are not sure if you have made enough income to merit filing.

Your local city government office may also contain tax information. This can vary from city to city, though they are likely to carry such information and forms because of their official position. You can always call and ask to find out.
